to put my tire size in perspective, the trailer was previously towed (easily) by a 2000 1/2 tonChevy 4.8l V8 with 33's and a 4" lift and stock gears

if my 5.9l cannot overcome that little blit of a tire size difference, then poo on Dodge

its kind of embarrassing to be honest, his v8 is barely a v8, hes lifted, has big tires, and gets better gas mileage than I do

You said he had stock gears, what are his gears? If I remember correctly, Chevrolet stock gears are lower than our 3.55s, and therefore better for towing. 33s are roughly equivalent to 285s, so not much bigger than your 265s. The 4" lift does hurt his mileage, but the engine is also a much newer design than ours. It gets slightly more HP on paper, but it requires more RPMs to pull the same load ours do.

If yours can't pull when he can as easy as he can (or easier), something is wrong with your engine/truck.

i have been fighting with the same issue. no *****. i havent replace quite as much as you so i cant fully compare but im getting ready to change my oil pan gasket and install a new oil pump and im gonna do a new water pump timing chain and probably a cam. my exhaust is coming soon as it is shot now. an air cleaner fastman and a tuner its gonna be a slow process as i have plenty of other bills to tend to first. keep us posted as im cery interested to see what you come up with. its sad when i get passed by a toyota tacoma pulling a 25'camper and i cant pass him with my 6x12 enclosed hauling an atv

wow, thought I had issues. glad mine doesn't have an engine issue (yet). I'd look in to getting rid of it before you spend more than the trucks street value. best of luck tracking your issue.
