Default 2500 Axle nut problem

I have a 98 with the D60 rear and trying to pull the hub on the rear. I bought aAmPro 2 9/16 socket, but the socket is about 1/16 too big both outside and in. I stopped by another parts store that carries OTC and checked theirs out and it was the exact same size. The OTC bookonly listed the socket up to 93 trucks. What am I missing????
