Staying in overdrive too long

Staying in overdrive too long
I recently purchased a 98 4x4 with the 360, I have noticed when I start to climb a hill and start to lose speed the tranny stays in overdrive so long (evenwith increasing throttle) that by the time it shifts it goes out of o/d and then downshifts again into passing gear. Is there a cable adjustment likesome older vehicles or something else ? If so does anyone have the correct procedure for adjustment ?Many thanks....

RE: Staying in overdrive too long
your tranny won't downshift until the rpms are below 2000 rpm, that's the way mine is anyway (mines a 2000 with a 360). what you need is more mid range power to help climb the hills. My truck almost has enough power to make it over the sierra's (lake tahoe area) w/o having to downshift. check my sig for current setup

RE: Staying in overdrive too long
I noticed on my '97 (when it still had the auto trans) that the first couple hills I got to it would downshift when it started to come under load. Then after the first 3 or 4, it would lug WAY down before downshifting. If the cruise was on, it wouldn't downshift at ALL after the first 3 or 4 hills. I think Dodge programmed them this way. The more the transmission shifts, the more heat you have, and the more wear on all the moving parts in it. I think they programmed it like that to cut down on that in an attempt to extend transmission life. It didn't work in my case. [:@]
