Should be a tag under the hood that tells.Raise the hood and look up. If it's still there, might need to be cleaned to read it.Lots of good info on it.

It's not the 727 but is the 96's 46RE or RH? It may be a 46RH but I'm not sure with the 96's. It's one of those two.

The 727 was only used in older trucks to my knowledge. No 2nd gens have a 727 from the factory that I know of.

Yup that's the same thing as the 46RE. I'm pretty sure.

Default What Transmission do I have?

I am having tranny troubles right now myself. I looked under the hood expecting to find a tag that told what transmission I have but found no labels with that info. Label on drivers side door post doesn't tell either. I bought the shop manual off of E-bay and this is what I found..The Body Code Plate is located on the floor pan under the passenger seat. There can be a maximum of seven rows of vehicle information imprinted on the plate. The information should be read from left to right, starting with line 1 at the bottom of the plate up throught line 7 (as applicable) at the top of the code plate.

So the transmission code you are looking for should be the first 3 digits in the bottom left corner of the Body Code Plate. I have not checked my truck yet because I will have to remove the bench seat AND carpeting to find the plate underneath. What a pain!

Here is some of the code listings in the Shop Manual:

Line 1 Digit 1-3 Transmission Sales Code
Digit 4 Open Space
Digit 5 Market Code - U-C-B-M
Digit 6 Open Space
Digit 7-23 Vehicle Identification No.

Line 2 Digit 1-3 Paint Procedure
4 Opens Space
5-8 Primary Paint
9 Open Space
10-13 Secondary Paint
14 Open Space
15-18 Trim Code
19 Open Space
20-22 Engine Sales Code
23 Open Space

Line 3 Digit 1-12 Vehicle Order Number
13 Open Space
14-16 Vinyl Roof Code (Door Combo Code - Pillette)
17 Open Space
18-23 Model
