Default Quality Rebuilt engines

My 94 1500 4x4 has finally given up. I cant be mad thought it only has 205009 miles on it and it has not been babied. She started white smoking out of the right tail pipe today. LOL She has only had a rod tap for about 12000 miles or so and still holding 60 psi of oil. Does anybody have any recommendations of a good manufacturer of 5.2L engines. I am in the Army and have limited funds but I want to get the most for my buck.

Man, dig in there and rebuild it yourself! Unless you cracked or severely damaged the block, that things good for another 200K. that 318 block is strong.

If you're in need of parts, go to the junkyard and buy an engine for loaner parts. 318s are cheap.

unless your around norther Mo. people around here think they have a gold mine and will only take 1200-1300 for a used 318 with 200,000-400,000 miles and flat out refuse to sell a "core" engine. I know this is not the cast in most places but just beware of what you buy when you buy used.

Sounds like it might just be a blown head gasket with the white smoke.

Yes, I read about the rod tap.White smoke indicates water making it's way to the combustion chamber.

KRC Performance has some shortblock and longblock packages that have the advantage that the 'quench clearance' has been tightened up and improved

http://www.krcperformance.com/krc/in...mart&Itemid=26

The Mopar Performance shortblock packages are low priced and worth looking at
but many knowledgeable people have posted that these Cummins Reman built unnits have spotty quality control and must be torn down and their bearing clearances checked with Plastigauge, then reassembled

white smoke is indicative of coolant in the combustion chamber. Usually a blown manifold gasket or head gasket, but can also be due to a head that has cracked thru the water jacket.

You can pull the heads and have them magnafluxed if you're short on funds, otherwise replace them with higher quality heads. then buy new gaskets and reinstall.
