Default Bogging when i hit the gas

hey guys i recently purchased a 98 ram 5.2 2wd and the truck has a k&n fipk kit on it as well as a flowmaster exhaust. When I hit the gas at real low speeds the truck kinda bogs down and loses speed and then i hear a little bit of popping and then it goes. I thought maybe it was the intake so i replaced the cone filter but it's still doing it?? any siggestions to what it could be, i am new to dodge rams and not sure what the problem could be. thanks in advance.

no actually seems like the more i drive it the less often i notice it. seems like right after i turn it on and drive it, it happens a couple times then it's not as bad. what do u think it would be if it was when it was hot?? i am grasping at straws here trying to figure out what this is.

could be that your injectors are clogged or sticking when cold...

I'd start with ensuring the tune is in good working order (plugs, cap & rotor), then dump in either BK44 or Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner in a higher concentration than what they recommend. this will help clean out the fuel system.

When your motor is below 165~170* it is in open loop mode which means its ignoring some of the sensors. Once it's warmed up and starts monitoring the o2 I'll be it's compensating for whatever is the problem.

Couple of other things you can do... Clean the TPS & O2 sensors and the IACV, (diy for the tps is in the DIY link thread at the top, read it carefully) Check the cat for a clog by measuring the inlet & outlet temps... input > output = plugged, input = output = dead, input < output = good. you can get a temp sensing gun at harbor freight.com cheep ($30~35 bux IIRC).

If it did it more when it was hot,it would indicate a possible converter problem. But since this is not the case I would say thats a no go on that.

I would agree with steve05 on this and look into the injectors. And yes,as he suggested, first make sure tune up is all good.If so,then move on to injectors.

Good luck man.

well i took the truck to my mechanic a couple weeks ago and it ended up being my fuel pump. I had a new one installed and has ran great since. Don't know if this will help, but at least it gives you somewhere to look. thanks for all the info guys.

Thanks for posting the resolution to the problem! Way too many people post a question, get some suggestions/responses, then are never heard from again.

Welcome to DF!

I have the same problem on my 98 2wd. I just took out the injectors and had them cleaned so we will see. I just bought it and have put new air filter, wires, and spark plugs.

Hope it is the injectors as I don't want to put in a new pump.
