noisy situation
I don't know anything about trucks so if anyone could please help. I just bought a 97' Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 w/ a 5.5" lift and 33 x 14.5 tires. I noticed that everytime i brake, it squeals so i know i need to change my brakes, but it also has the same squeal whenever i turn left. Even if its just a slight turn to the left it squeeks. Also as i was driving to work one day, i was passed by another Dodge Ram 1500 and i could hear that truck had the same squeal while just driving. Do i just need to change my brakes? Or could it be something else? My friend said it could be the ball joints, but i figure i should ask some other people for their opinion. Please anyone... HELP!!!!
your squealing noise is probably from the "squealers" built into the brake pads. they are wear indicators, and when the pads are thin and worn out, the squealers drag on the rotor making a hideous noise. replace your pads. inspect the little squealer prongs on your old pads, you'll probably see a shiny edge from where they are dragging.
squeaking might me u-joints. put the truck safely on jack stands and look for any play at the joint. there should be none. changing these can be a pretty big job, and often results in damaged axle seals.
