Default Torqueflite in an 01

So. The dilemma: I got an 01 Ram, and I spun the oil pump bearings, and basically fragged the unit. Anybody know if an older, 70s or so Torqueflite will bolt to my 318? I can do some oakie fabrication, so that's cool. I know my transmission is supposed to be computer controlled, but the motor will run without the transmission hooked up, and an older Torqueflite will work with having any computer inputs, so why couldn't I drive my truck with a 727 backing my MAgnum? Basically the only thing I need to know is if I will need a new flexplate deal, and if the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same on the 727s as the 518. Any help would be much appreciated.

A 518 is basically 727 torqueflite with an OD unit bolted on. And the OD unit is the part that usually craps out. So what you might want to do is contact Wayne at APS precision and see if he would sell you a beefed up OD unit and see if you can get your's rebuilt with upgraded clutches and HD parts.

There are a few internal issues too that I had rather than the OD unit. Wayne at APS is great though. Can't say enough good about him. Look up some of my old posts if you want more info.

Thanks for the replies, guys, I'll check it out, but I can't really afford much, I just have an opportunity to pick up a good 727 for like 150 bucks, which is all I can really spend right now. I already got mine all out and apart, so now I'm just looking for the lowest cost alternative.
