better fuel
i have a 2001 dodge ram ext cab 1500 5.3 318 V8. I have a single flowmaster on it and 5 speed standard. i read about a guy who got his truck which was just like mine but white to 23+ mpg what all did he do and could that be rasied even higher.
Just a minor correction, its a 5.2L 318 V8, not 5.3L. The 5.3L is a Chevrolet engine.
He probably got 23 MPG by doing a few basic upgrades (like the Fastman TB, a good exhaust, all synthetic fluids, for examples), and then by driving 55 on any highways he went on, never accelerating very quickly, and by drafting semis. He probably also had a 4x2, which helps.
I used to get 19 MPG occasionally with my 1995 Dakota 4x4 with the 5.2L V8, when I first bought it from my uncle. It had cheapo highway tires that were pretty hard, and was bone stock. After a good set of A/T tires, K&N open element kit, and exhaust work, I was getting 14 to 16 MPG highway.
Also remember that people can write anything, especially on the net. Don't believe everything you read. Plus people have a tendency to exaggerate. If he got 22.1 MPG, I bet he'd say he got 23 MPG.
Or maybe he was going by his overhead computer readout, which is never accurate.

yeah, Im also calling bs since the new chevys with the electronic fuel management only get what?? 23?? I could be wrong, but I know its not much more, and since they make the switch from 8 to 4 cylinder when not in use I think they have a much better chance than any of our hogs, these trucks love fuel, and lots of it haha.
