Well, we think it's the compressor leaking but not sure if it's the evap core too or not.

mine leaked also, replaced the two metal/rubber seals, then found the evap core leak.

Best of luck in your repairs.

It's called an AC vacuum pump or evacuation pump. You should just go to an ac shop where they have a refrigerant leak detector. They stick it up the lower vent duct to see if the core is bad, since you can't see up in there to see the dye. BTW, there is a spray you can buy to clean the dye.

One more thing, by the sounds of it , it is the core. You had AC one minute and not the next? If it was the compressor it usually leaks out slowly over time. The core on the other hand , can just blow out a big enough hole to loose it in a matter of minutes.

I'm going to do the compressor, drier, orfice tube, and evap. I have them on order from the dealer. I got a set of A/C gauges and vacuum pump from
Napa but have no idea where to even start with trying to vent the freon out. I'm a total noob to this. Any tips? The service manual is confusing.

Why are you buying all these parts without knowing what is actually bad? If it's just the evap. core , why replace the compressor for know reason? And the dealer price must be crazy.

The compressor looked like it had a leak but it didn't look to be big enough to be the whole problem. The orfice tube and drier I was told I should replace anytime I do A/C work.
