I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x2, recently I lost reverse in the transmission and I also noticed it sounded like it was rough shifting in all forward gears. When was changing the tranny fluid and filter this weekend I found something scary in the pan. They looked like small pieces of metal maybe 5mm thick and 1/4" wide. I put them all together and they formed a half semi-circle. Is this a band or what does anybody think it can be? Also what will be the solution to fix the reverse problem.
Note: Since I changed the fluid the forward gears all sound fine and shift smoothly.
Sorry bud. Your reverse band is toast. Ive gotten a couple in with that problem. The reverse band apply servo broke and caused the band to drag on the drum and tore the band down to metal and ate into the reverse drum. Its time for a rebuild.
Thanks guys I really appreciate the info. Guess its got to get done. How much should I expect to pay if I may ask? Is it possible to DIY. I did my wife's 96 Dodge Caravan myself.
