A tire and rim question.....sorry guys
Ok, well I've had the truck for a while now and have made some small changes to it, but now I'm looking into tires and rims. What I'm truly after is that look of the tires sticking out a few inches from the truck itself. I like the 16x10 eagle rims, and as far as tires dont have a preference for the brand, just that they be mud terrain. My main question is do I have to lift the truck to fit 16x10 rims? And what size tires can I put on those rims? Would 285-75-16 work? And with that combination would they stick out from the truck a bit? And would a leveling kit in the front be of any help? Thanks in advance, I searched but couldnt find anything about this combo in particular.

Im running that tire size on my 1500, with the stock 16's instead. However, I have a 3/4" lift in the front and a 2" in the back. It still rubs a little bit when I turn the wheel all the way though. It doesn't noticeably stick out, but I'm not sure what the width of the stock 16s are though.

I run 16x10 Eagle Alloys with 305/70R16 BFG MT's on them. I also have a 3" Skyjacker lift and rub when I hit a bump at full lock or sometimes if trying to turn at full lock in a parking lot or something. It does stick out the side a bit and to me looks really good. The downside is it throws rocks, rubber(if you do a burnout), and anything else off the road onto the side of your truck instead of in the fender wells. So expect to have rock chips all behind each tire.

thanks hometheaterman for the close up pics, its actually you that i was hoping would respond to my post as its your truck i got the idea from......ok you say you have 16x10 rims, and a 3in. lift with 305"s....i wasnt looking to go that big with the tire, but the rim size sounds good and as far as the lift do you think id need it if i did say 16x10 eagle rims with 285-75-16 mud tires and maybe a 2" leveling kit in the front? and as far as the tires sticking out as they do on yours is that a backspacing thing or did they just fit naturally like that when you had the tire/rim combo put on the truck?

In all honesty that might be too wide of a rim for that tire. I don't know that I'd run any narrower tire than I have on a 10" wide wheel as mine are even stretched way out.
I'm not sure on the backspacing of my wheels but that's what has them sticking out. I'm kind of thinking my wheels only come in one side of backspacing.
I think your best bet would be to just get a 8" wide wheel with a lower backspacing if you want them to stick out and want to go with that size tire. If you want to do a little lift just go with a tire about like mine.

BF Goodrich Mud Terrains. I'm on my third set. I kind of am thinking I may try the Toyo's next. I almost did last time but to me the BFG's are just one of the best looking street friendly mud terrains so I stuck with them. I've now kind of been wishing I went with the Toyo's. The sidewalls of the BFG's seem to get cut easily. Not usually all the way through but I had one get cut all the way through. I'm not sure if other tires would do this or not. I don't offroad really with them but we do have a place in the mountains with a gravel driveway with rocks in it so I'm sure they sometimes hit the sidewalls. Overall it's a okay tire.
