Default 01 Dodge ram axle leak

What's your thoughts on making a road trip with a front axle seal leak? Reason I'm asking is I don't really have the time to tear into the blasted thing and I gotta make a trip of about 300 miles to pickup some stuff from my dad which won't fit in the car (tractor front end). I was thinking just check the oil level and at my first pee break climb under her and check it again refilling as necessary. It's leaking pretty good but I have no idea how long it's been leaking, probiably a couple of weeks. Seals are cheap enough and I got em I just didn't get em in yet. I'll probiably ask my dad for help to fix it being I've helped him a bunch over the last year to fix his POS rusty Ford pickup Thoughts? Opinions?

It depends on what "it's leaking pretty good " means. Any amount that gets too low before you hear or feel something is just going to wreck something else.

Pinion seal is a bummer! Lot of work to replace that. Put some thicker gear lube in with some sawdust and call it a day! LOL

My seal have been leaking for months now. If it will leave a 4" oil spot overnight, and I drove to Maine from CT and back (200miles one way) and had no issues. As long as I still see oil spots I know its got oil at the bearings. I tend to just top it off every 3000K (oil change) and it takes less than a qt. I plan on doing the seals myself, I just keep putting it off since its a PIA to do.
