Question tranny type

Nobody ever answered my question abt my tranny. The man who sold my ram 1996 , 1500 to me said he had the tranny replaced with a heavy duty one from the dealed aftre his went south from towing a heavy load regularily. Now I want to find out just what size it is . So how do I do it ,the info on the hood is wrong if he swaped the tranny out. HELP Terry -----tboss

you most likely have a remanufactured or new RH46. the same unit it came with. early model 2nd gens are RH (hydraulic) and the later ones are RE (electronic).

early 2nd gen as in 94-95 is a OBD I , 46RH trans
96 on up OBD II , 46RE trans .. my 96 is a RE trans...

i don't think i'll EVER learn those cutoff years. lol.
tboss, your replacement transmission might have some upgraded components worthy of some "heavy duty wording", but its most likely the original model that it came with. not unless someone got real creative with a 47rh/48rh out of a 2500 or 3500. a dealer wouldn't make any such modifications to the truck. they just sell reman's and tell you whatever you want to hear.

He told me the dealer installed a 120PSI pump and up graded the shift package. Does tjhat make sense terry

i don't know anything about the pump, but the shift kit sounds good. how well does it take off, shift, and act ?

It would be cool to put 47re guts in a 46re. The only big mod you would have to do is machine a slot for the reverse band anchor. Ill have to look into the cost of those parts, sounds pretty doable and would make a nice upgrade for a 1500 ram.
