depends on what you want the trans to do. If you are just looking for a firmer shift don't waste your money on a shift kit. There is an adjustable pressure solenoid in the valve body that can be cranked up to give a harder shift. I do not recomend doing this on a trans with alot of miles as leaks (internal and external) will occur. If you are look for differenet shift points, higher line pressures and improved lube routing in the trans than a shift kit is the way to go. Look and the Trans Go or Fairbanks. The other option is an APS valve body KICK GASS!!!!!

No there isnt. There are no EPC's inside of a 518. The only adjustment to line pressure you can make is the hex head adjustment screw for the line pressure valve. Tighten it down and compress the spring and it raises line pressure. That really is not a good way to firm up shifts.

If you are looking for just something to get the shifts a little firmer then buy a superior or a transgo JR kit. I usually use the superior in my stock builds, helps with durability.

If you are looking for a performance shift then look into a fairbanks or transgo HD kit.

thats is what I was refering to. Just trying to keep it simple. Didn't want to get into a bug discussion about line pressure vs apply and cvi's. Been doing dodge tranys for to many years and turning up the pressure has always worked for me....

Give Wayne at APS Precision a call. He can set you up with everything you need.

How is that keeping it simple when you refer to something that isnt even a part of the transmission?

What are you talking about? CVI has nothing to do with anything in this thread.

Oh really? I bet it did work, when you crank up the line pressure it will MASK all kinds of problems.

Just trying to stop MISinformation. People come here to fix or make their trucks better. They need the CORRECT information in order to do that. So if i see information that i know is wrong being posted im going to point it out and correct it.

Sorry to jack the thread, but MonteC is correct it is a valve not a solenoid. My bad. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. On the other issue about increasing line pressure. On a fresh rebuild I don't see a problem with higher line pressures. Maybe I'm missing something. I have turned up pressures on used tranys before. I always use a pressure gauge. Yes turning up pressures on a trans that is slipping or have other issues will mask problems, but on a properly functioning trans I don't see a problem as long as you don't go crazy high with the pressure.

Well you didnt say a fresh rebuild. On some i would agree its OK to turn up the pressure a little. But at the most i would ajust it out .050-.100. Stock is about .350 so the farthest i would go is .400-.450.

There are other ways to firm up shifts other than just cranking up the line pressure.
