Congrats on realizing the Rams look ridiculous w/o taller tires, especially the 4 x 4's. When you figure your mileage, remember if your speedo is underreading 5%, so is your mileage computation so you are doing a little better than you figured initially? To learn a lot about tires including diameters and a lot more including survey and test results, go to www.tirerack.com and plug in a tire size and then click on specs and scroll around and you will see the diameters and more of a lot of sizes including the one you are considering. Then remember if your stock tire is 28" and you move to a 31" when your speedo says 28 or 56 you are really doing 31 or 62. Easy to figure and not worth correcting the speedo for. This also stretches your warranty period out because if your speedo underreads by 5% you will get 5% more miles on the truck before your warranty mileage is reached. Fun, huh? Something else about going to a bigger and wider tire that not many people think about until they make a right turn and their right rear wheel gets scratched by hitting a curb........ pushing the wheel up and sticking the tires out farther protect the wheels from damage. I am surprised with the big wheelwell openings on the Ram that 285's could rub. A guy with a Ford 4 x 4 was over here and he had 315/75 x 17's on it w/o any suspension change but it was a 3/4 ton and therefore might sit higher. Even though, those tires are a couple inches bigger in diameter than the 285/16's.

The leveling kit is : the 4x4 dodge ram 1500's sit ruffly 2 in" lower in the front then they do in the rear" and it is simply a spacer for each spring that is about 2-21/2 in" tall. You can also just replace the springs with 3/4 ton springs "results in stiffer ride also dont know about the effects on the shocks" OR you can purchase new 1500 springs that are 2" taller then the factorys ones. Shocks should be able to handle the extra " in of travel.

If it really matters try measureing the distance from top of wheelwell to the top of the tire. mine i belive is 8" up front and 10" in the rear.

Good you shouldn't. The Sport isn't a lift package, its body work. The Off-Road package is the 2" lift package.

Look at the pic in my sig, see how the front looks about 2" lower looking at the wheel well gaps? Thats because I don't have the leveling kit. The kit makes it the same front and rear. I have just been to lazy to get it and install it.

I have the 285's on and had both stock and aftermarket rims at stock height and did not have any rubbing. I have approx 2.5" of lift up front right now on the MT Classic II's and no problems.

west coast differentials

use these calc's for figuring the tire height and any gear swap considered.

I have 4.11's back there now and love it. MPG i cannot comment on other than I have gotten a best mpg of 15.8 on a long road trip with a fresh tuneup and newer o2's installed. lately i've been getting 11.8 mpg because I think the o2's died... (Bosch o2's) now I have the NTK's in there and the mpg has come back up but havent checked yet (too soon, only 200 miles since the swap).

I put the 285 Revo's on and man do they look good! It's a totally different truck. There is a little rub at full turn but it is on the plastic inner fender which I can pull back a little to eliminate the rub. No noticeable shift changes or tranny issues. Thanks for all the replys!
