Default Headlights and tail lights

got a 97 and 98 dodge ram

what is the best (brightest - beam reach) replacement bulb and as far as tail lights do they make a BRIGHT! LED replacement.

I noticed the taillight lense gets really hot with that bulb in there.
Seems if i found an LED one that was cooler burning my lense would last longer or at least look better.

Anybody?

links are good

Thanks!

eBay for the LED bulbs. For the taillights, you may also need to buy some resistors to wire in, otherwise the LED bulbs will not take enough wattage and may cause the signals to either blink really fast or stay solid and not blink at all (the computer telling you it thinks a bulb is burned out).

For headlamp bulbs, you have several choices. This was discussed in a few threads not a week ago (and others that were longer), if you do a search (see top of page), you can find them.

When did they convert the bulbs to 1157s? Was it in 1999?

I don't know

I think mine has that smaller one?
how much further does a 6000w than a 4k reach in the aftermarket bulbs?

6000watt? Are you sure or is it 6000k vs 4000k? If that's what it is it's just a color temp. When it comes to HID's most OEM ones are around 4200k and I think that's where the brightest is supposed to be. That's mostly a pure white. After that it gets more color but less lumens.

I think you're right HTM. But you don't really start losing a ton of lumens until after 6000k though, I think.

Yeah I agree I just was saying. A 4200k would be brighter than a 6000k but the 6000k would have a little more blue than a 4200k.
