Default Vinyl on dash?

Question:

Like so many others', my dash has started to crack. Not too bad right now say maybe 8 inches towards passenger from the defrost vent. Before I shell out the bucks to replace it (don't like coverlay, thanks) I had a thought. I've made many rounded/odd shaped sub boxes and covered them with vinyl.

If I removed the dash and reinforced/repaired the crack, do you think covering it with an OEM color match vinyl would hold up or fit when re-installed? Getting the vinyl is no problem, used it on the custom sub box I made for the truck ... perfect color and grain match.

So?

I don't see why not. Vinyl seems to crack more when it's worn out by constant flex, for example sitting on it (like on seats and such)
