Auto to Manual?
hey guys,
My truck is a 2001 1500 with a 360 and its got about 93000 miles on it. now my question is, how hard will it be to make it manual transmission, its an automatic right now obviously. my trans is getting towards the end of its life seeing its going in and out of gear while im just driving normally and it takes forever to shift sometimes. so instead of getting the auto rebuilt i was wondering how much more expensive do you think it would be to convert it to manual. i really want a manual trans but dont want a new truck. has anybody here done this and be able to explain to me what all i would have to do? maybe a list of all the parts i would need? that would be sweet, thanks.

well i was thinking that it would be easyer with a 2wd because no transfer case.., but i think that you would need to change your computer as well because you have a auto now and thats what your computer think's you have, a auto... best thing to do is find one at a junk yard and look to see if the transfer case's are the same, if yours will bolt up to the new one. plus all the little parts the you will probably forget. but to me the biggest thing would be if the transfer case bolts up to the manual trans.. good luck
i think the t cases match up. not 100% but pretty sure. ive heard the hardest part of this is getting the clutch pedal mounted. you would have to remove your AT shifter from the steering colum or get a new one.
Just measure the shifter, cut a hole in the floorboard. then pull off the flexplate and put a flywheel there, with clutch and pressure plate. then put the manual tranny in there, put the clutch pedal in. hook all the nessary cables and sensors back up.a new computer will be in line as well.
it also might send a different tach signal... im not sure though.
