Default Gas gauge fix problem's

Today i got the bed of my truck off to fix my rusted out brake line. Thought while i was down there i should probably see what's wrong with my gas gauage so i took it out cleaned it off the little track thing it run's on and bent those two little tab's out checked it with an OHM meter said it was working. Put it back in gas tank and OHM meter doesn't read anything but when i take it out it says it's working. Gas gauge in truck does work but not working when connected to fuel pump. I took the sensor off and touched it with a pair of pliers gas gauge starts to go up let off it goes down, hook it back up to the fuel pump and it just sits on E.
Any one else have a problem while doing this?

Default

sounds like an open or short in wiring from pump assembly up to the dashboard gauge

if my memory is correct

When full the tank sender should read 20 ohms plus/minus 6 ohms.

When empty the tank sender should read 220 ohms plus/minus 6 ohms

the older Chrysler ones were different, when empty maybe 75 ohms
