Just bought my first RAM
Hi everyone, I just bought a 99 Dodge RAM Sport Quad Cab 4x4 5.9 L and have a few questions. The truck was in an accident so it was rebuilt (not sure of the extent of damage) I'm just wondering what year the OFF ROAD 4X4 package came out because my truck has the sport decal on the front hood, and the 4X4 off road decals on both rear sides of the box. I'm assuming the front bumper has been replaced because it's not the one that mathces the colour of the truck (black) like most sport models, and does not have tow hooks etc.
1) I'm wondering how to tell as well if I have modified suspension. I have 285 tires on the truck and it looks to be sitting up higher than most trucks of the same year. I looked under the front and there is what looks like a shock on the front steering? Is this normal or does this indicate I have a modified truck? I also noticed what looks to be like spaces between the back leaf springs and the axle (aprox 2-3")?
1)Another question I have is I've been reading about the plenum intake problems. How do I check this? I have a 6 month warranty on the powertrain.
2) I noticed the antifreeze level was way down so I added some and it seems to be staying up. I don't see white smoke out of the exhaust or anything and don't see any leaks? Is there any other common problems with leaking antifreeze?
3) The truck has just under 200,000Km on it and I was thinking about running synthetic in it? No apparant leaks right now Good idea for synthetic?
4) Does the transmission have band adjustments that need to be made when changing the filter and oil?
5) Last question is where can I find the specs on the truck I have? There are no stickers to see what gear ratio etc that I have. I've tried to find a site that would tell me by typing in my vin but haven't had any luck.
If anyone knows or has a site..my vin is
1B7HF13Z6XJ520550
Thanks

update, the first VIN number I gave was found under the hood and by drivers side windshield, here is a second one found on the drivers side door ( Like I said, it's a rebuild from an accident)
1B7HF13Z4XJ646695

Pretty sure the offroad model was only offered in 2000 and 2001. BTW I've never seen official stickers on the sides of the bed for the offroad model. The ones I've seen have been on the tail gate. I will post a picture of mine her shortly. Some have been other colors but most like that on the tail gate. Mine is a offroad edition from 01.
