Default Bad Cat

how do you know if your cat is going bad. I think that mine is, my truck makes a ratteling noise and you can feel a vibration when a accelerate from a dead stop. could this be caused from the cat? thanks

you would smell sulfur and it will kill your acceleration, once it clogs up though... your not going anywhere.

i also think you might get a CEL

With the truck running, get underneath and see if you can hear where the rattling is coming from. If its the cat, then either the heat shield has come lose or, more likely, the cat is bad.

A Magnaflow High Flow catalytic converter is the preferred replacement choice.

Mine rattled for a while befor it finally got to where you noticed performance loss it was due to the waffle cone inside had broke in halve and would only restrice flow under acceleration. I had absolutly no sulfer smell. I gutted mine and made a O2 extention to the rear O2 and the problum was fixed. Even after gutting it i have never noticed any sulfer smell and the truck runs 310% better.

sulfur in the gas, and the better in tune a truck is, the less the cat is actually needed.
