Default Cracked exhaust manifold?

I've got a pretty bad exhaust leak on the driver's side up near the manifold/cat joint. I bought a new Magnaflow cat to install hoping that the problem is with the cat, but I'm thinking now that it may be a cracked manifold. Does this happen often? I've read that the bolts can work lose and cause leaks, so I'll have my shop check it while they're installing the cats.

Just in case, though, I think it might be a good idea to have a replacement manifold (or both sides) so they can fix it while it's apart. Anyone have a set for a '98 2500 4x4 5.9L V8 laying around? Let me know how much.

Thanks.

you may want to get new one because the the time you have putting in a used one and not being good.... but it maybe a gasket (manifold or donut) if you can't find a good set of good old ones that are not cracked, try http://www.rockauto.com they are 65-66 dollars. or try a junkyard. i love rock auto they have great prices but so do the junk yards.. good luck and keep us posted.

haha why buy stockers get some shortys or longtubes, depends what you want, check your exhaust donuts, one could have went, cracks are hard to see in a manifold bet bet find the leak

not many cracked magnum V8 manifolds have been reported in forums

it is possible,
but it is more likely a loose flange
or rusted out wall of the exhaust tubing
