Default Goin to the chassis dyno tomarrow

Well I was able to track down a chassis dyno that is nearby. I will be swinging in tomarrow to see what my numbers are. Little nervous actually, I have always thought my truck was quick but I know the seat of the pants dyno can be decieving. Just trying to get a baseline before I start really tearing into it. I have already done some mods like kegger mod, fastman tb, headers, dual exhaust, stuff like that. I am getting a really good deal on it so over the next couple weeks I plan on settling some rumors that I have seen on here. Such as one the ever elusive throttle body spacer. I bought one a few years ago and took it off. The other is the JET chips Stage 2 programmer. Got one of those a few years ago also and took it off. So I will do this run on 87 gas then when the tank runs out in a few days I will throw some 93 in there and run the JET chip. I plan on including dyno sheets with this when I get done tomarrow evening. Also on another note, I was talking to a Mopar performance dealer here and he said I can get a new 6.1L crate motor, computer and everything to run it for about 9 grand. He stated they put out about 450 out of the box. Not bad I guess. Anyone know if I could hook up one of those to the tranny that is in my truck now? Although I guess for 9 grand I could have one hell of a magnum engine. Anyways let me know if there is anything else I can find out for ya, and I will keep you all posted.

Default dyno results

Well here are the numbers. I am trying to figure out how to put dyno sheet on here. But if it doesnt work, this is what I got. 200.26 Horsepower and 277.28 Max Torque. Not bad I guess. The guy running it said he was surprised. He was expecting more like 170 or 180. So just a run down of what I have. 1996 Ram 2500 4x4 with 5.9L v8. 108,000 miles regular oil changes every 3,000 miles, running on 87 octane. Mods on this dyno run, gibson headers, true dual exhaust with flowmaster 40 series mufflers, 180 degree t-stat, and 52mm fastman throttle body. Wires, cap, rotor, and sparkplugs are all oem style. Only other thing is I have a shaker hood that uses a 14 in round air cleaner. This might of hurt me a little bit as this shop is used to running cars and did not have a fan tall enough to blow air into the hood of a 4x4 truck.

Nice, flat curves. That's what is most useful for a truck. 200 seems like a good number for these vehicles on a chassis dyno, and I'm glad you're happy with it. When I worked for a dyno manufacturer, the #1 complaint we heard was how all chassis dynos read low because all these guys with alleged 500 horsepower cars were making 250-280 at the wheels. Guess what? Your car isn't nearly as powerful as you think it is, but they're just numbers. Owners of near-stock cars, even performance ones, are inevitably disappointed. I can't tell you how many guys with 5.0 Mustangs were appalled to see their cars make 180 horsepower...

I also like to point out that it's all relative. Nobody races dynos. If your car/truck is fast, it's fast no matter what the numbers are. Hope you had fun.

The car manufactures have changed the way they rate their HP now and it is a lot closer to what the vahicle actually makes. I use a dyno on my T/A every time I make a major change to see where my air/fuel is and make sure my tune is in working condition/ or see if I need to make changes. No need to go WOT with the juice on the streets to get it dialed in.

dyno numbers are just that dyno numbers and don't really mean anything. I have a 6spd in the T/A and it makes great power on the dyno, but I get beat at the track by cars making 100 less hp but are auto. It is hard to get a actuall number for a stalled auto.
