rear axle
alright guys, heres a good one for you, I was driving my truck today, and out of nowhere I start hearing this grinding, so I go to pull into this parking lot and next thing I know the whole back end of the truck locks up. So getting out to take a look at it somehow my gears in my differential got jammed downward and straight through the differential housing completely destroying my rear differential of course, and the driveshaft came loose and just fell right to the ground, not a bad thing because the driveshaft is still alright thank goodness. So now I have to figure out the best route for fixing it. Its my first big issue with the truck ever, in all 200k miles, but even so, its still a big issue, I am not sure if I am better off just going in and looking at new trucks or just spending the money to fix it. Does anyone have any idea of the best route to follow with, I can only find chrysler 9.25's in junkyards and am wondering if there is a good swapout that would match my trucks driveshaft if I chose to go that route?? The only problem is that I need something on the 5X5.5 because now I definitely wont have the money to replace the wheels.
All the 9.25's from the Rams and Ramchargers (IIRC) are 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. The 9.25 should have been what yours came from the factory with if you have a 1500 like it says in the sig. I'd just find one that has a matching gear ratio at the junkyard and swap it in. You may have to do some welding of the perches if they don't line up (if you buy one from say a ramcharger). I'd just make sure to open up the cover and inspect the gears for wear. Brakes aren't as important as you should replace all those parts on a junkyard swap anyway.
The axle itself should not run you any more than $150-$200 or so from a yard. They really are dime a dozen having been around for so long.
