Default CD Player

i was wondering. I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 and it has the stock cassett player in it at the moment. If i went onto like Ebay or something and ordered the Stock CD player for the same generation Ram would i be able to simply unplug and unscrew the cassette player and put the CD player in?

I believe so. IIRC, 1999-2001 were the same. Probably even further back. Worse case, you might have to do some wiring, but thats very doable.

But why don't you get an aftermarket head unit? A decent Pioneer or Alpine unit will sound much better than the stock.

Yeah you would be much better to get an aftermarket h/u. I took my crappy stock cd player out and put a Alpine in. I keep my stock one so I can put it back to stock if I ever sell the truck or anything. I now run a amp for the speakers but at the time didn't. The stock radio for some reason doesn't go very loud. Was hard to hear with the windows down or anything like that.

don't waste money on a stock unit.
get a good aftermarket unit that plays mp3's, has aux input for your ipod, rca outputs for amp, satellite, etc. also get a mounting plate kit (~$20) and a wiring connector/adapter for dodge (~$20).

If you buy the radio from Crutchfield.com which is great to deal with btw they give you the wiring adapter harness and the mounting kit for free.
