Screwed up idle
I have a 1996 dodge ram, 5.2 V8, 4WD, and about a year and half ago i believe the idle got screwy after my battery died. i brough it into my guy back home and i cant remember what he replaced, i thought it was the IAT but lately i think it might have been the IAC. well after he fixed it, we got a really cold day in wisconsin and the battery died. completly drained the thing and the idle was screwy again. when i would start the truck it was fine, after driving for about a minute, when i released the gas pedle the engine would idle down and stall. i talked to the guy back home and he said when i got home he could reset the somputer for me, otherwise i could run little "trials" while i was waiting to get back home. he had me start the truck and leave it in park for 2 minutes, then put it into neutral for 2 minutes, then in drive for 2 minutes. after those six minutes, he then had me drive the truck slowly until i hit 40-45 mph. i would drive this for 5 miles then pull over and stop. after a few times it was suposed to reset the computer automatically and be fine, which it did work after a couple 5 times of trying it. well the battery has died a few times since then and i finally replaced it last march. the idle has been horible since and have been having to double pedal everywhere. i have no problem double peddling, it just im thinking about selling it now and want to get it fixed. so i started doing the trials again, i pulled out the IAC and cleaned it, hopefully didnt damage it. so far nothing has really worked. anyone have any ideas of what else i could try, or if they know for a fact the IAC was just bad again and needs to be replaced?! i dont wana take it into the dodge dealer here when im perfectly capable of fixing this myself! any help is greatful.
