ARGH!! U-joints
Had the same problem with my u-joints when I replaced them through NAPA. the guy gave me the smaller joints because the book had the wrong number. took 2 tries for him to get it right (when I brought in the old one after the second time). The correct one was listed for the 3500 pick up.
Doesn't sound good. I don't want to do them again that soon. Hopefully, they will last longer than that for me. I want to go Spicer next time and if I had to do it again would go with Spicer and only Spicer.
Well, about the only action these'll see is snow, and the occasional muddy rut. Even the cheap ones should last me a lifetime. :-) I wasn't planning on getting a 4x4, it just happened to be what was up for auction.
I got the passenger side u-joint put back together last night. I was too worn out from all the other stuff I did (ball joints, new shocks, etc) to do the driver side, plus it was 1:11am. When I drove the caps in far enough to get the "C" clips on them the joints got really "tight". Is that normal? I would have thought they should feel kinda loose. Oh, and one of the caps, not sure which one, is minus one needle bearing. I found it on the floor after I got it all put back together. I'm sure that means it'll self-destruct in a spectacular fashion sometime. :-(
