I am having issues with the cab temperature. I am constantly blowing hot air out even if the temperature setting is on cold. Where would I start to look for the problem?

I have a '99 Ram 1500

Also, does defrost work of the AC? Defrost and AC sound the same and put out dry air, while the other 3 settings don't seem to put any strain on the truck. Is this right?

not to make you sound dumb but is the *** broken... mine was and i didn't have heat for 2 weeks . a *** had a crack in the backof it....it made me feel dumb

 

the 'blend door' mechanism on the passenger side of the dash is a well known trouble spot

 

Having similar problems with Dodge Caravan. It started with the rear wiper going on when nobody pressed that button and since then I've discovered that if I push the vent control **** in a direction it was never meant to go, then the lights on the control buttons blink and strange things happen. I've learned how to manipulate things to get what I want but now the temperature slider doesn't work leaving me with no heat. I live in Canada and no heat means no travel in winter-time. Can anyone make suggestions in this thread?

 

Just to follow up on my previous post. Here is what happened:
- I searched more threads and found helpful information about how to run diagnostics on the HVAC system. I've done that, it was very educational, but didn't solve my problem.
- I used my diy manual to open up the dash and see what's behind the ***** - this was also very educational - there's a circuit board there. Plus, I found that the ball bearing and spring that make the clicking sound when you change the zone had popped out and likely shorted my circuit board. Bummer. But when I put everything back together, it still didn't work.
- Now that I've run the diagnostics and cleaned the loose springs and ball bearings out of my circuit board, I still cannot control the temperature or zone. The diagnostics that I can run also aren't able to do those things so I guess something is shorted out - either the circuit board itself, or some relays, or fuses.
- Fuses are all okay, so that leaves circuit board and/or relays.

Any more ideas?

 

If this is a Caravan you are talking about that is a common problem and so is the BCM. But, you might want to post this in the Caravan Forum, as the info will be alot more helpful there. 2nd gen Rams are a lot different.

 

I had that happen. I used a little spring clamp to hold it four years ago and it's still ok.

Yes, the A/C is on in Def, Def/Floor, and Vent/Floor. the only time its not engaged is when its on Vent or Floor only, oh, and of course in the OFF spot.
