Default Some questions help please!

My truck has been sitting for 1 and a half years now every once in awhile it goes out maybe like 7 times a month because dad bought a new car for himself and kept the truck for me to drive. But lately when i move it around the yard to clean it or if i have to do anything to it when i first start it up it will go from Park to Drive or Reverse first time its fine but when i take it from Reverse to drive again it starts to die down motor and the lights dim a little. What could be wrong. Something wrong with the transmission? The truck is a 95 with a RH transmission. Only other thing that i could think of it could use a new battery because the one kind of old. The volt meter gauge when started goes a little bit over the 14 is that normal? also the lights dim when i hit the button to put the windows up an down?

I'ld say get the batterey and alternator both tested. I mean autozone doesn't charge anything to test them so you might as well test both

Take the truck for a spin and get her up to operating temp. Put her wherever you park her and set the e-break with the truck in neutral. I would check your fluid level probably and go from there. If your fluid level is fine, and your not driving it that much the fluid may be draining out of the lines back into the pan or where ever. I wouldn't worry too much either way, However for the battery, I would pull it out and charge it over night if you are able.

Either one would do.

- - EDIT

Actually i just re-read your post for some reason and it seems like I read it wrong. I'd start with the basics like the fluid check, but... yea run her till you have a problem. Sorry that I read your post wrong, but I believe a bad battery/alternator would still cause the truck to run wierd as suggested above. Charge the battery tho and see if it dips after charging. On the other hand, a little bit of dipping is normal, how much are you talking here? I sit around 600rpm in gear with my foot on the brake.

How long do you let the engine run in that yard? If it's no more then ten minutes at a time and that 7 times a month, you're probably draining the battery as the alternator has no chance to load your battery. If you let it go too far, then your battery needs changing. The fact that your voltmeter gives you 14+ volts is good and means that your alternator is fine, but means that your battery is almost dead or needs a good recharge. Try to recharge it and once recharged, let it stay for a day or two. After two days, messure the voltage and it should be at least 12.50 Volts. If it's below 12 Volt, buy a new battery.

Greetz,

Bigster

The motor runs for about 5-10 minuets before i try to move it. Would it help if i put it in neutral for a few mins before moving it because some were on here i read that it could get the fluid moving?

I think the battery is just plain not charged up enough. It can still have power to start it,but not enough juice for it to run right. You need to drive it and let the Alt. charge the battery.(idling for 5 minutes or even 10,does virtually nothing for the battery)And check the belt tensioner and make sure it moves freely. And as far as the tranny goes, mine does that too when it sits for an extended period of time.
