On a side note I'm kinda surprised that no one makes patch kits for the doors.... seems like it could be a good money maker considering around the 10 year mark they rot away... I personally make my own but yea I've been doing them since I was 8 so yea
just a thought

You can get panels from LMCTruck.

Yes keep it in. Don't use too much, or it will be dripping out the holes for days. Best thing is to take off the inner panel and blow or vacuum out first. Then it's easier to put the oil in the groove also.

Also, don't use WD40 either. I used that on mine thinking it would work, but it actually caused more rust bubbles to appear in the paint. not sure why... usually that stuff does wonders.

The door may have already been to far gone. But, I wouldn't use any type of penetrating oil, I think they have more cleaning solvents in them which may eat at the back of the paint.

Cool Door cancer slowly spreading!

Hey Zman looks like I'll be dumping some oil in mine. They are starting to bubble ever so slightly on the outside of the door. I know it wont be long.

Don't you guys have the moisture barriers on the inside of your panels? The plastic film that covers the inner parts of the door?

aim4squirrels,
Yes, I do, but its the water that gets past the window seals. water is allowed to get past and drain out the bottom. the plastic doesn't do anything to prevent the rust. just keeps the moisture out of the cab area.

ice01,
get them fixed now!!!!! its cheaper to get them fixed now than to have more rot to repair. mine was bad and i was quoted about $400 or so a door. thats cutting out the rot, and replacing with new lowers and repainting a good portion of the lower sections, then the shop was going to redo is so it doesn't come back. they said they get a lot of dodges and chevy's that have issues like this.

When I lived in the rust belt, I used an oil sprayer that I got from NAPA and sprayed oil inside the doors, along every seam on bottom side of the bed and over everything else underneath. I liked oil because it penetrated metal better than rustproofing stuff.
