Default Muffler doesn't fit pipes

I bought a Dynomax muffler for my 96 ram 2500. The pipe on the truck going in is bigger than the one coming out.. maybe 4 inches in 3out. The mufller is 2 1/2 in and out. Can I buy a converter for 4 to 2 1/2 or do I just have to clamp it until the big pipe crushes to the smallers pipe size?

That is a size that a muffler shop is going to have. Do not buy a different size to "crush" because you'll have leaks. You're better off taking it to a shop.

Sounds to me like you got the wrong muffler.

you need a "reducer". clean your pipe and get an accurate measurement. check local parts stores or muffler shop.

I bought the muffler off of rock auto. I found it in their V10 section and it said it fit my truck so i assumed it was right. I have no experience with this stuff.. I am going to take it to a muffler shop and see if they can do anything. When I looked for the correct muffler size online I didn't see a 4 inch in 3inch out. Where could I find one of those?

You bought the wrong muffler... That muffler was in that section because it is a generic part. I hate when vendors do that.

I got my pipe reduced from 4inch to 3inch and the muffler installed for $90. It sounds like a little honda now but the truck is running a lot better!
