Default Freeze Plugs?

Ok I have a 97 ram 1500 with a 318 and 5 speed manual. I have antifreeze leaking from between the tranny and the motor. I have been told that there are a couple of freeze plugs that can only be gotten to by removing the tranny or the motor. Is this information correct?
