The chrome on my wheels is peeling.

To check for the plenum failure (and there are 10,000 posts about it on here, it is super common) take the throttle body off and shine a light down into the intake manifold looking for a lot of oil in there. If there is a lot of oil pooled in there, the plenum is likely busted, which is like a vacuum leak. They sell a better gasket that will help.

As I understand, to help ease manufacturing they made the intake manifold have a plenum pan that was on the underside attatched by many bolts. The problem was the pan was steel and the manifold is aluminum, so they expand at different rates under heat and it causes the gasket to fail often and prematurely. You can actually have an aluminum plate welded on if you decide to fix it for good.

I wouldnt be too down on Dodge. When I got my turck used at 105k miles, it was a mess. I have put it back together and its running decent right now. I like it. In the past I drove Fords and man, the ones I have had were tough. Today, I test drove an explorer for my Bro' who knows nothing about mechanical things - it was awful. There are good and bad trucks amongst all the big 3. You never know just what the guy before you did to the truck you have now.

get rid of it, dont waste your time and energy fixing all those problems, sounds like you bought a complete turd. there are some good ones out there you just have to know what to look for, sounds like yours has been seriously abused.

My truck is a fixer upper cause whoever had it last didn't take much care of it. Apparently it was just a cement hauler from what we can tell. Great for a-to-b type stuff, but performance it's a real dog, but slowly working on all that. Just blew out a ton of carbon with some seafoam earlier and a bottle of techron in the tank that has smoothed out my idle, just need to take it to get a check up so to speak.

i don't think so. blown gasket makes it run lean, and hot, and causes spark knock and low power, but i don't think it hurts mpg.

i get about 12-14 city and 15-16 hwy.
check/replace front 02.
tune it up.
pump up tires.
turn off ac.
drive like an old lady.
check odometer accuracy. big tires under report your mileage.

Because how often do you need to remove it? Really?

I've never needed to remove mine.
