Default Lost Illumintaion On Instrumnet Cluster

I was driving this morning and lost all illumination on my instrument cluster, cruise control illumination on steering wheel and rest of dash lights as well. Only thing that works is the illumination on light switch and my aftermarket stereo.
Checked my fuse in fuse box and noticed 5 was burned out. I tried to replace with correct fuse and it kept blowing out on me when I would turn the key on. Im thinking a short circuit somewhere but not knowing much about electrical I dont really know where to start. Any pointers would be great. Thanks in advance.

Check your tail lights. They are connected to your dash lights so that when they go out, you know your tail lights don't work.
