Default 96 Ram keyless entry install-help

Bought an original Mopar keyless entry system for my 96 Ram. It comes with the modul, 2 fobs and wiring harness. Planning on installing it soon but need some help.
1. Where does the modul need to be mounted (want to mount it to factory original location)
2. Anyone have a diagram on how to wire it
3. How is programing done-is the stealer the only one to program these after install?

thanks

I am looking to do the same thing as you. The original keyless entry module gets mounted up under the defost duct on the drivers side. You will need to remove the lower trim panel under the steering wheel as well as the steering column support structure (6 bolts) under the steering column and you should see 2 bosses for the RKE module to mount to. I'm not sure of the programming proceedure for a '96 (mine's a '97), but AlldataDIY.com for my '97 states that you must find the dark green wire in cavity 1 of the 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic port and ground it. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the on position and the power locks should cycle (lock, then unlock) as feedback. Press either button on the 1st transmitter and the locks should cycle as feedback. Do the same for the 2nd transmitter (if you have one) and the locks should cycle again. Disconnect the program wire from ground, turn off the ignition and remove the key and test the transmitters.

I have some questions for you (if you are still watching this thread)... What does the wiring harness consist of? I am planning on pulling the RKE module out of a junked RAM at the local Pick-N-Pull and want to know how much harness I'm going to have to pull to get what I'm looking for... I haven't pulled the dash apart in my RAM to see if the wires are already there or not (would be nice, but unlikely).

Please let me know and good luck with your install.

I just did the Mopar Keyless kit for my 98 Ram.... it was CAKE!!!
I got a box with the remote and the remotes... the second box had the addon harness'
one harness went to the ignition, you unhook the ignition wire harness, plug in the new harness, plug the old harness into the new harness and teh new harness into the keyless brain.... which,by thw way just gets zip tied to the steering colum..... the second harness, I dropped my kick panel and found the plug going out into the doorjam in the boot, unhooked the right plug, plugged in the "t"harness like teh ignition, nw harness to teh door harness, the old harness into the new harness and that into the brain... gotta take the led and switch ,hide it somewhere....and push the pins of the LED into the right holes of the plug..plug it in.... run the antenna wire, and your set.... I didn't have to program anything.... works GREAT, KILLER long range.....

Were did you get your RKE module from and (if I might ask...) how much did it cost? If it didn't cost all that much, I'd rather buy new than pull one from a wreck.

Would this module be the same for a '97 or did they change anything between '97 & '98? I know that they redesigned the interior, but I don't know if that included the electronics...

Please let me know! TIA
