It is amazing and disappointing to see what the true HP and Torque numbers are at the the wheels for a stock vehicle. From the information I have read, behind the wheel #'s are usually 20% -25% lower than at the crank due to drivetrain loss.

Purpldodgeramitmfers: I love the Hughes FI Airgap intake. I didn't lose any low end and it begins to pull around 1800 rpms and at 2500 rpms it begins to pull really hard until redline. With my stock intake, I noticed my truck would stop pulling around 3800 rpm's when towing my 6400# travel trailer on a grade. With the FI Airgap intake, my truck continues to pull that weight well above the 4000 rpm range when I need the extra climbing and passing power. The SCT towing tune and 4:56 gears also helps in the towing department. When not towing, the FI Airgap Intake pulls very hard in the mid range well into the top end and provides awesome passing power, especially on the freeway. Hope this helps.

Ram2K1: I totally agree with you. Having more HP would be desirable, but I would prefer more torque than hp to get our heavy trucks moving quicker off the line, especially for towing. I'm happy with the torque #'s. HP was 220 @ 4429 RPM/87.7 MPH, Torque 318 @ 2343RPM/51.8 MPH. As you can, see my torque is at a very usable rpm range. I have been selecting mods to improve my torque and towing performance. I will be installing a towing cam from Hughes Engines, hopefully during Christmas break. I can't wait to see how they perform and what kind of dyno numbers the cam will produce.

Thanks for the feedback. Also, did you notice any fuel mileage improvement with the intake?

wblarosa- I got it dynoed at TEC Service Repair in Bakersfield, CA. It cost $85 for three pulls. I did only two pulls and the last one I had them do a 1/4 mile run which simulates 1/4 mile run on the Mustang dyno. It gave me the time and mph for a 1/4 mile run. It was pretty cool to have them do that. I'm not sure how accurate the times are.

talon6- Thanks for the thread. Very interesting information. It's amazing how much a 345 HP Hemi at the crank can dyno between 235-245 HP behind the wheels. Looks like after installing the Hughes Engines towing cam, I'll be seriously considering getting an aftermarket torque converter to help reduce/offset the drivetrain loss. Thanks once again for the thread.

The gas mileage has basically stayed the same. I haven't really noticed an improvement or decrease in gas mileage after installing the FI Airgap intake. Hope this helps.

talon6- Sorry to keep you hangin. According to the Mustang Dynamometer, here are the Quarter Mile Sprint Test Results.

Distance/Time/Speed

Reaction Time 1.164

60' 1.84 31.73386 mph

330' 5.81 57.40878 mph

660' (1/8th) 9.29 70.94203 mph

1000' 12.34 80.76612 mph

1/4 Mile 14.92 87.62335 mph

After I get my cam installed, I will dyno again and possibly do another quarter mile sprint test. Eventually, I will take it to the track here locally to get some true 1/4 mile et times. Anyways here are the numbers for whatever they're worth.
