Thumbs down exhaust questions

i have a 2001 dodge ram and have been wanting to put a true dual exhaust system on it. the problem im running into is i have 3 cats underneath. there are two small cats directly behind the headers which have o2 sensors both before and after and then there is a y-pipe that goes into a larger cat behind that. so what do i do? ive thought about buying two high flow cats, keeping the stock sensors, and running duals to the rear with 2 more flowmasters. sounds expensive to me. has anybody run into this 3 cat situation? any suggestions are appreciated.

i can maybe help alittle, i only had one cat. and it was at the y pipes and thats where the front o2 sensor is, what i would do is do wht you said, get two high flow cats that already have the bungs in them. put your stock sensors to that, and then run the pipes and what ever mufflers. just remember you hve limited space and dont forget your heat from the pipes. i ran a single pipe, and ended with a cherry bomb. all in all it cost me bout 25 bucks and i got two mpgs more. just make sure if you do it, to take pics and let us here

It must be a California emissions thing. Any other 2001s will have just the single converter.

I think the first two cats are actually called "pre-catalytic converters" and then the larger cat is the actual catalytic converter.

Replacing the whole setup with two high flow cats might not pass emissions. I wonder if anyone here has more experience with California setups.

Another midwestern boy! About time. Isn't it great not to have inspections or emissions testing?

Like I said before, not sure on Cali emissions, but I think that as long as the O2 sensors are reporting what they are supposed to report, the computer shouldn't set off any CELs. Might have to get some O2 sims from the Fastman, worst case, I think.
