Default Check Gages?

I was driving home from work today and the CHECK GAGES light came on. Then something in the motor started to scream. It was constant and kinda sounded likme it was a belt but why the check gages light?

I pulled it in my garage and got someone to listen where it was while i reved it up but after a few seconds it went away. Has anyone had this problem randomly?

You need to CHECK GAGES. Do as the warning lights say!

That post was really helpful..

If its making funny noises, turn of off, and leave it off. All you can hope to accomplish is damage to the motor by leaving it on.

Check the belt, tensioner, all the pulleys. Also check oil and fluid levels. If you still can not diagnose the noise, get it to a shop.

i'll guess that something on the belt locked down, and the check engine was from the alternator not turning.

remove the belt and look at its inside. if its cracked, broken, or worn out, replace it.

while the belt is off, check each pulley by grabbing ahold of its edges, and trying to wiggle it back and forth. they should be tight and not move. spin the pulley. it should be smooth.

something is probably crapping out. most likely tensioner or water pump.
