Default Winter is here

What are you guys doing to your trucks to make sure you are ready?

New tires? just a change of oil?

I've been buried in my bikes for so long I forgot what it was like to have my truck but now that winter is here she gets all my attention again.

Any tips/tricks? I live in northern IN and its not uncommon to see it get 30 below with the windchill.

Get you an engine block heater if you don't already have one...they aren't very pricy. I live in Middle TN and the winters are pretty mild, so I don't have to do too much...

I got new tires which lucky for me fit my old old old chains I have. The chains are ice breakers /\ /\ full chains, like $200 a set I think.

Also I replaced my radiator, switched to snow wipers, installing more lights and etc.

You think I need a block heater for a gas engine? Really? Guess I always thought that was just for diesel motors.

What are winter wipers?

I apologize for all of the stupid questions. at this point I can change the oil and some of the other basic things but thats where my auto knowledge stops.

Winter wipers are just windshield wipers that have all the mechanism covered with this plastic like material.

Helps prevent the wipers from going out sooner and ice and snow can't get in and mess things up.

Anywhere near freezing I plug mine in. Can't really hurt it, and it does start easier in the mornings. It also helps lower fuel consumption, because a warm engine consumes less than a cold engine. Not that I'm to worried about MPG, after all, it is a truck.

so something like this? or do you guys have something else in mind?
I have the 5.9 360 V8, where would I put something like this to be most effective? the oil pan? Kind of a pain to be crawling around under the truck in those temps.
