Default 94 Ram (was 318) swapped in 96 360 issues

Went and looked at a plow truck tonight non-idling. Background is that he swapped in a 96 ram 360 engine into his 94 318 Ram. I know engine wiring changed around a bit since OBDII came around. After the swap it threw a crank position code. Replaced it, same code, replaced it, same code again. Runs but will not hold an idle.

Is there a sensor or some type of wiring issue along the lines when swapping in the newer/bigger 360? He's replaced a ton of parts along the way to get it going but had no success.

Let me know what you think.

Did he get a new wiring harness for a 360?

I do know he replaced the tps, flywheel, all plugs/wires, and something with the timing (brain was half frozen in the winter blizzard here in Michigan).

I would pass on it. I think the 318 uses a different wiring harness and computer than the 360.

Also the 95 was OBD1 I believe and the 96 and later are OBD2. You would need the ECU and wiring harness to match the engine. Another thing the 95 tranny was hydraulically controlled and 96 and later electronically controlled.

Are you positive he replaced the flex plate? I've heard of the same problem you are describing from other 318-360 swaps, and its because 360's are externally balanced, while 318's are internally balanced.
