400 Horsepower

Okay I have 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with the 360. It has 96,000 miles and stock when I bought it. So far I have added a Airraid cold air intake, fastman throttle body, flex a lite dual 15 inch fans, pacesetter long tube headers, super 44 exhaust... I'm wondering what it takes to get to 400 horsepower short of some sort of supercharger... And I'm not some grade A mechanic so I was wondering if there was some other stuff I could do. And do it for fairly cheap.

I realize im not that close... I'm dynoing it tomorrow. I'm hoping for about 320 horsepower... What ya'll think I will have?

Sorry buddy. I would have to say everything you did gave you 20 HP, realistically. Considering the 360 had 245 at the crank, I would say you will end up with around 200-210 HP at the wheels.

To get to 400, its not going to be cheap.

the only way to get a RAM that close to 400HP is the 2009 RAM Hemi. A claimed 390hp and 410 ft/lb.

Then add some mods from there. its not as cheap, but at least you would get a lifetime powertrain warranty. :)

hahahaha

sorry...

MOPAR doesn't even sell a 400hp crate 360! well 390 is close enough...

you will need a 408 to hit anywhere near 400 on a chassis dyno.

he won't if he does anything to the motor! they are gonna be very picky about modifications on those trucks.

The numbers that the manufacturer rate an engine at are not always right. My 488 V10 is rated at 310Hp with 450ft1b but when it was on the dyno it put out 327HP and 459ftlb and at the specified rpms that dodge said it has peak power at. The funny thing is that i did that when it was stock and had 160,000 miles on it..... yours could have 320Hp .. you never know.

Not only that, but who knows if Dodge and the other 2 big makers will be around to honor the lifetime warranty 10 years down the road.

Good luck adding 100hp more without spending big $$ and then needing to get a better tranny... rear end... brakes...and being able to steer straight when you are hauling azz down the road.

not worth it. its a big ol' truck, and slowest of the bunch... enjoy it before the tranny and plenum give out.

think my plenum is going. Sunofabitch.

I had a 2003 SRT-4 and that was the same thing with them...factory rated at 215hp and people were pushing 230-240 bone stock on the dyno...

But, seriously, with the loss of hp to the wheels on these trucks...I would say expect about about 200 at the wheels...sorry. Hope we're wrong.:)

Hate to say it, but I agree with Viper.
