Default Thinkin... Tiresize vs. Trans

Well I got on my... "I want 33's" kick today which I told myself I would just do the 265's and call it a day. I run 245's stock, so its two sizes different. As soon as i hit 50mph now, OD kicks in and it bog's like a **** with 3.55's. I fear doing 265's as it is

LT245/75R16/E 678 Rev's / mile -stock
LT265/75R16/E 652 Rev's / mile - prb get
LT255/85R16/E 625 Rev's / mile - want

Here is where I started thinking... If I killed my overdrive so it was three gears, and put the 33's on which would knock the rpms down, is it do-able? Side effects? Stupid? Only reason I ask is I do not want to do gear swaps no matter what.

I run 265's right now, and my OD does just like yours...but I keep it off during city driving. I think a lot of people on here run 285's without trouble...but that is the biggest I would go with 3.55's. That's what I plan to bump to when I get new tires.

that when you add a tb spacer..lol

but think he's say that i will low your are final drive, and it will..... so hwy mpg may go up, but city will go down.

now for me pc our start and you problem know this but for everyone these... 33 and 3:55 i would say drop your gear 4.56 or 4.10's to keep the driveability, that's what i would do.... but gears are more money$$$ just do what make you happy, get what you want, because you will be kicking your self later.... just my 2 cents

Personally, I think a 265 is a big tire. A lot of people get wrapped up into the giant tires when they see the big lifted mud truck go by, but it's the truck with the 245-285s doing all of the hard work, because they are usable. A 285 is a big street tire. It is the size of a tire that separates a big road tire to entering an off road tire after that size in my view. 265s seem to be the biggest tire you should go with on 3.55 gearing. My brothers truck has 3.55 gearing, but he still is going to size up to the 285. It's what matters to you. If your looking for a beefier look, but willing to sacrifice some overdrive performance, then go with the 285. At the end of the day, I don't think it makes too big of a difference. I have 4.10 gearing with 285s, and the truck is relatively slow, and seems to perform similar as it did with the 35" monster tires..

Haha, ya see.... my problem is the "well your in this far, mise well do this..." (ask bluebeast2) If im gonna do gear swaps, im gonna do limited slips, and still have to deal with install kit, labor, etc.... Definately not in my price range. With the level kit, my tires look like donuts. I mainly want to fill that space and know that the 265's don't add that much. Was hoping the no overdrive = higher rpms and with the large tires would lower rpm's to make it just about even ? lol... I can hope can't I

The 265 will still look small...that's what I have and why I want the 285's. These fender wells are SO huge that you can't run stock tires and not look ridiculous. I hate that about my truck...
