I am looking at purchasing a 98 Laramie quad cab with the 5.9L engine and was wondering how many pounds the standard bumper/hitch was rated to tow. Also, what class would the hitch be? The owner's manual has listings for I, III, and IV but doesn't say which is on the truck.

 

if the receiver tube is 2" square, then its probably a class 3, which is 500# tongue weight and 5000# total.

unfortunately, the transmission is only rated to tow about 5#...

If ur talking about the bumper itsself its rated for 5000lbs w/ a 500lbs tongue weight its the same as a hitch.

 

I thought the bumper was rated at only 2500 or 3500 lbs. I recall that it was far less then a normal class III hitch (at least on the 1/2 tons).

 

naw the bumper is rated for 5000 most all full size trucks are 5000. the rangers and s10s are usually 2000lbs same for dakota.

 

I think that my factory Mopar hitch is a Class 4.

The stock bumper is a Class 3 hitch
