Default Stereo Replacement Question

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have a '95 Ram right now with just a plain ol cassette player stereo. Its not the original. This one came from a Dakota I think. But I would like to find another that has a CD player with it. I really like the look of the factory so I do not want to buy one of them aftermarket ones. Any Chrysler will fit right? Well I mean with similar dimensions. So any one help me find one?

Thanks alot

I don't think it will fit that head unity in the pic is quite a bit smaller than than the head unit that fits our trucks.
You'll be a lot happier with an aftermarket unit and a dash kit to smooth thing out. Plus, IMO I think that an aftermarket setup would be cheaper than getting a stock head unit.
Try your local junk yards they might have something.

I had a stock one, and I got rid of it...would play bought CDs but not burned ones (which I acquired legally). I would go with aftermarket...just my .02

Really? What brand of blank CDs do you use for the burning? Burned high quality Sony or Verbatim discs worked perfectly fine in my stock unit before I replaced it.

But I second the notion of an aftermarket unit. I would offer to sell you my stock unit if you still want stock, but mine is a 2001, so the hook-ups would be different. And if you have to go through the whole re-wiring thing, or buying of adapters, you might as well buy an aftermarket unit.

That sounds more like the formatting of the material that is on the disk. The stock head units don't read MP3 formatting.

You can use any Dodge, Jeep or Chrysler head unit as long as it has the grey and black plugs on the back AND has square corners. You need to get one with the proper mounting flanges. Our trucks use the ones with the lower left and upper right corner mounts. Ebay has lots of them for around $50.00 or so. Be aware that they also had an infinity series that used several speakers and needed amplifiers behind them to work. This type will not work with the standard speaker setup. They will say Infinity on the face and have 5 tone cotrol slide buttons.

That is probably it...most of my CD's are burned in MP3 format...plus I just hate having a factory cd player.
