How am i able to tell what rear end i have on my 1500?
under the hood it states the ring is 9.25 but that does not help when i want to change the fluid

 

All Ram 1500s from 1994-2001 have Chrysler 9.25 rear ends.

Unless another owner changed something, if it doesn't say you have a Limited Slip Differential under the hood or in the glove box, you have an open differential. Another way to check is jack up the rear end and spin one of the wheels. If the other wheel spins in the opposite direction, you have an open differential.

what does limited slip change? Just got a build sheet from Chrystler and it states that i have a limited slip differential

 

its a clutch based posi unit basicaly it gives more traction

 

when you change the oil in a limited slip, you need to add a small bottle of 'friction modifier'. its usually right beside the diff oil at the parts stores in a little 8 oz bottle.

 

if you dont add that bottle the truck will jump when you try and turn and in just a few corners you just bought yourself a new rear end
