Default Low Running Temp

Just purchased a 1997 Dodge 2500 4x4 with Cummins Diesel. The running temperature will not rise much over 140. I've read that this can cause damage to the motor. What is the cause of this?
Thanks for any help. This is my first Dodge.

if your 140* is a measure of coolant temp, it sounds like you need to replace the thermostat.

Hey Guys,

Thanks so much for the quick replies. I'll replace the thermostat and see what happens. I'll also check out the Cummins forum.
Merry Christmas and may the Lord bless you each.

Seriously look at purchasing a winter front if you live in a cold region too.
