Default Front door speakers

My buddy got front door speakers for his 99 ram and asked me to help him install them, but when we unscrewed the speakers from the door they had this big black thing w/ ten or so wires running into them bolted to the the factory speakers. I have no idea what they are and my 97 ram doesn't have them. we cut one off and installed the driverside speaker and it didn't work so we had to reconnect all ten wires for the speaker to work. when we did the pass side we didn't cut them just unbolted it from the speaker. they're now just hangin inside the doors b/c there was no place to bolt them to the new speakers. My best guess is some kind of amplifier of something. Any inputs would be great. Does anyone know wat the hell these things are??

Those were the amps. The infinity system comes with amplified speakers. Also some of the Non infinity decks still came with the amplified speakers.

From Crutchfield:

Explains what the wires are and how to bypass them for aftermarket speakers.

you can re-use those amps. just wire-tie them to the new speakers.

I figured they were factory amps since he had the infinity option included. Thanks for the help.
