i get about 15 highway with a low mileage rebuilt

 

I live in NY, about an hour south of Albany. Im gonna be filling up again tomorrow so I can see if my SeaFoam Treatment helped at all.

 

don't forget the stock tire is a 225X75X16 which is dinky.

Also winter blend gas, longer warmup and idle times, will effect MPG's too.

So will a death flash or a plenum leak for that matter.

 

I was getting about 12 consistantly no matter what this fall. Now that it's cold I have barely been able to top 10. I think I found part of the problem, though-- I still had warm weather air in the tires. When I checked them today the front were down to 28 and one rear was 30, and the other 26 :|. This has since been corrected and hopefully this'll help...

 

Does anyone have a preference on spark plugs, I heard that Dodge says to use Champion so I was just gonna get those. I did buy an Accel ignition coil to use on it, but after reading a few posts and different reviews I see a lot of people say that have had problems with Accel, so I was just gonna get a new OEM.

1600 or rpm's sound right @ 60 or so. They might be on to something with the winter mix gas. Do you idle a bunch? I am not running a stock tire size its slightly larger tire and I run 50 lbs in them for the cooler months and 45 in the warmer months. Other than that I keep it at 55-60mph I have a cheap ebay copy of the k&n CAI a new transmission new tires the cooler range autolites and a 180* tstat. I am waiting for my friend to do the electric water pump and cooling fans I suspect that will gain a few more mpg.
I have another friend with a 5.9 4wd and he gets 16mpg with the same mods I have.
Whats your air filter look like? that could make a big diffrence if its really dirty.

I dont understand why my truck seems to do way better than others on mpg. MAybe I am just lucky???

 

Are you going by what your overhead console says, or are you penciling it out yourself? Have you adjusted your speedo for the larger than stock tires? If not, your truck's readout is going by a smaller tire's diameter, which will tell you that you are doing more miles than you really are.

I agree with Purpl. Never use Bosch. They do not work well in our engines, I can vouch from personal experience on my 1995 Dakota 5.2L V8 that I had before my current truck.

Some people dislike Accel, have had problems with it; others have had it forever and no problems. If you already have it, I'd go ahead and use it, but also keep a stock-type unit that works in the cab, just in case. I went with the MSD Blaster 2, which is reputed to be top, but I still keep the original stock in my center console just in case.

NGKs aren't bad. Champions aren't bad. Autolites also work, sometimes better than the rest, other times worse. For me, with my tuner and unfixed plenum gasket, the Autolite 3923s worked the best.

 

i never had a problem with bosch but thats all i have ran in it so i dont know how it runs with some other brand
