Default Won't idle when cold

1996 Ram 4X4 5.9 gas engine. Runs a little rough and won't idle when cold. Even makes a little whining sound at start up. Kinda sounds like a supercharger. After a few minutes I can rev it up and it idles fine until next time I let off the throttle, then it dies again. Once the engine is at normal operating temperature it purrs like a kitten.

128K miles, all original.

Ideas?

i have the same problem, stalls when cold. After about 30-45 seconds of revving up she iddles normally (no whining noise here). I have also difficulties to start her up when cold... I'm looking forward to somebody answering this thread .

Greetz,

Maybe there's a horse somewhere in my engine?

Nope, I doubt it, we were drunk, driving to fast and..... Well I am sure you can figure out the rest.

Also check that deal that recirculate exhaust through motor, I can't, for the life of me remember what it is called as I have been drinking because I can't sleep. I seem to recall I have had to clean that a few times on other cars that had shit idle. EGR valve I think.

mmmh, i cleaned that one a little while ago, should be fine. Could this be caused by water temp sensor? I noticed a crack in one of them... but i doubt that this could cause that.

we don't have a MAF sensor, we use a MAP sensor.

Neither of you messed with the idle adjustment screw on the throttle body, did you?

First thing I'd do is check the IAC.

Default As for the lumina

I guess it would be quite expected to have a slight idle problem (possible even a few other problems like at the least headlight aim) after HITTING A HORSE

the problem is most likely your crankshaft positioning sensor they go bad on these trucks it also could be you idle air controll valve but these trucks do not have mass airflow sensors
